Pond update

The results from the mailed ballots during Janruary 97 were discussed in great detail at the meeting at Grand Glaze library. Here is a brief summary.
  • The majority of the votes received were for digging out the pond. There were not enough ballots returned to make a decision either way. The clear message from those at the meeting was the pond does need to be reworked. It is clearly in need of work. Attendees volunteered to go door to door with information on the project.

There were two choices given to each homeowner:

  • proceed with the project.
  • not to proceed.

The trustees wanted to have all votes recorded no matter if the vote was for or against the project.

  • The result was the majority of the homeowners voted to pay the $200 per home and restore the pond to sustain life. The indentures require 55% to agree for an assessment. We did exceed the 55% required.

The contract has been negotiated and thoroughly reviewed. Plans are to drain the pond during mid August 97. When it is dry enough to commence digging the project will go to full swing. We estimate 275 dump truck loads of muck will be dug out and hauled to a local landfill. The result will be a twelve foot deep pond with the proper slope to keep weeds from growing along the shore. The Missouri Conservation department has given much advice on how to do this project properly. They will also stock the pond with bass, bluegill and catfish for free. This will not require us to let the public fish in our pond. It is still private property.

Remember there are two main goals of the trustees.

  • 1. Improve the quality of life.
  • 2. To increase our property values.

This is our pond as exists in July 97. The covering is duckweed. Depth of the pond is four feet at the deepest point. Note that eight feet is required to sustain life, other than algae.
